Riverside Ru Inn, St Anthony, Idaho

I met Ken Matthews in St Anthony last week and spent way too much time shooting the breeze with the guy.  He is an incredible guy who can lay stone, engineer, and talk philosophy and religion.  Between paying jobs, he has a formidable personal project going...the restoration of "RU Inn" in St Anthony.  The creative take on the project is what makes Ken's project distinctive and one heck of a story.  I began documenting the process and hope to work with Ken to preserve the history of the place.  The structure used to be a hotel and the old First Security Bank in St Anthony.  Its future is in a fluid state: perhaps a destination inn, perhaps a artists' community space, perhaps?  I hope to record the story as it unfolds.

It works! This is a great building. He's been all talk and no action forever. My son was friends with his (Mr. Matthews)son and I am friends with his daughter.Look at all the potential if money wasn't an issue.

thorkgal, Have you seen what has been acomplished, young lady your comment has completely missed the boat. The many visitors don't seem to share your sceptism. This valley needs something positive like this. Ken is an artist in his own way, give the man credit where credit is earned.

I don't think thorkgal meant any criticism of Ken's work. Ken is a gifted man with many talents. I think she is just confirming the fact that money is the essential ingredient to Ken's progress. If anyone appreciates what Ken is doing, I believe Thorkgal would be the first to acknowledge his accomplishment.

I know its a long shot since you posted this so long ago but I think this building is amazing, I actually live across the street from it. I was wondering if you know if Mr. Matthews still owns it or minds talking about it to someone who really just wants to know the history of it ad what he plans to do with it. I love the building and older buildings like it always catch my heart and soul. I'm the type of girl who always wants to explore the abandon forgotten house/places not very many people think of as beautiful anymore.
